Looking to install a new heat pump in your Maryland home?
Heat pumps are an energy-efficient alternative to traditional heating and cooling systems but work just as well and are more affordable.
Let the Maryland HVAC professionals at Grove handle your heat pump installation and make your home more comfortable.
What is a heat pump?
A heat pump is a piece of equipment that can move heat from one place to another, which makes it able to both heat and cool a space. This unique quality makes it a worthy alternative to a traditional HVAC system consisting of separate heating and cooling units. Heat pumps are often found in geothermal systems which harvest heat from the depths of the Earth.
What does HSPF stand for my Heat Pump in Maryland?
The acronym HSPF actually stands for “Heating Seasonal Performance Factor” and it represents the ratio of a Heat pumps output to it’s electrical use as an average over the year. A simple way of thinking is the higher the HSPF the better for your utility bills. An example range for HSPF is from 8.5 to a high of 10.0. A rating of 8 or greater is an energy star standard and in most cases qualifies as a tax credit.
What does SEER stand for on my Maryland heat pump?
SEER actually stands for “Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio” which represents the ratio of the cooling energy output divided by the electrical energy input. This is used as a standard among the HVAC community to compare the efficiency of a given heat pump unit. As with HSPF the higher a SEER rating the better. Units commonly range from 14.5 to a high of up to 20.0. There are often better rating numbers with mini splits in Maryland.
How can you benefit from a heat pump in Maryland?
Because a heat pump transfers heat rather than producing it, it is also more energy efficient than a traditional system. Plus, you can use it almost year round in mild climates both for heating and cooling purposes–perfect for Maryland weather. A heat pump can also serve as a great supplemental low-cost cooling or heating system.
Our technicians at Grove Heating and Cooling can install, service and repair your heat pump. They can also help modify your current heating and cooling system or design a new one to help you take advantage of heat pump technology.
